Ukulele Program

Prairie Music & Arts offers general music and ukulele classes to elementary students in the Sun Prairie Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department Early-Release program and the McKenzie Family Boys & Girls Club. Students explore singing, movement, and playing the ukulele. Through this project, young children are exposed to the joy of collaborative music-making.

In the words of teaching artist, Christie Kirchmiller, “I love playing the ukulele because it’s a happy little instrument that’s fun to play, especially with friends! It’s great for children because it’s small and lightweight, easy to learn, and gentle on the fingers. Beginner ukuleles are also much less expensive than other instruments, so they’re a nice option for children who are just starting to explore their interest in music.”

Programs at the McKenzie Family Boys & Girls Club are supported generously by the Sun Prairie Education Foundation.
